What started as a hashtag became a platform. Claire wanted to support her friends and their families. She knew if the consciousness around buying local increased, more local businesses and community organisations will thrive.
COVID-19 changed everything. All of a sudden we were seeing local businesses close, and people losing their jobs. Locals flooded social media to find ways to support locals. In Australia, over 1 million people bought online for the first time in 2020.
However, many local businesses were not online. Billions of dollars were leaving the Sunshine Coast community. Going online and creating a digital presence is not easy and often expensive. Claire knew that a community-based approach to digital marketing would make going online more accessible for local businesses.
We just need a few local businesses to chip in. The funds would go to building an easy-to-use platform and running sophisticated region-wide campaigns using Facebook, Instagram, and email marketing.
Together, as a community of businesses, we can build a loyal following of local shoppers, ready to support local businesses.
